| Danish Fur House Sales Hit Record as Chinese Buy Mink (Update1) | | Posted Tuesday, November 14, 2006 10:53:27 AM by Blog57 Team | | Nov. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Kopenhagen Fur, the world's biggest auction house for furs costing as much as $35,000, is posting record sales as China's new rich snap up minks and chinchillas. ``The truly rich are a growing demographic in China,'' said Torben Nielsen, the Danish company's chief executive officer, in an interview. ``This top end is really beginning to flourish where there's a very large potential for the most expensive labels.'' Founded in 1931, Kopenhagen Fur is the world's biggest seller of raw mink used in coats with prices that start at $3,500. Revenue at the company, which sells to fashion houses worldwide owned by Gucci Group NV, Prada Holding NV and Fendi SpA, soared 49 percent this year thanks to an economic boom in emerging markets that has created thousands of new millionaires.... | |

| | | Leo's fortunes are on the rise | | Posted Sunday, November 12, 2006 12:49:34 PM by Blog57 Team | | He's that guy from 'Titanic'. For a long time now, Leonardo DiCaprio has been known for his role as the ultimate romantic hero in the super duper hit flick. But, surprisingly, everything he did before and after 'Titanic' went against the grain of the image the movie managed to espouse. Now with his performance in the just released 'The Departed', DiCaprio for certain will distance himself even more from that image. He is the kind of actor who did not need the fame. He has always been critically acclaimed and when his career chart is examined, it proves that the pomp of 'Titanic', which to any other actor would have been a godsend, was actually an anomy in his career. Even before 'Titanic' made him a global phenomenon, people didn't realise that he had already acted as a drug addict, shoot 'em up cowboy, prostitute and bisexual poet, and had been deservedly nominated for his brilliant performance as a mental retard in 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape?' He had even unflinchingly held his own ground against acting legends like Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep in 'Marvin's Room' when he was just a kid.... | |

| | | Lily blooms in London | | Posted Friday, November 10, 2006 10:48:32 AM by Blog57 Team | | This time last year she was just a 'Sarf London girl' who would have laughed at the very idea of having an army of aristocratic admirers. But Lily Allen, whose chart-topping single Smile was the sound of last summer, has notched up yet another remarkable No 1 being named by society bible Tatler as Britain's most desirable eligible woman. In her wake are a swathe of young Royals, titled beauties, supermodels and the pampered daughters of business tycoons and rock stars. Tatler describes 21-year-old Lily as a 'pretty popstrel who arrives at parties in heels and then swiftly changes into trainers. Likes people to think she's a Sarf London girl but is a secret Sloane. Completely heavenly'. Tatler's so-called Little Black Book is its annual list of 200 'sexy, sassy and seriously social' boys and girls and its publication in the magazine's December issue is a high spot of the social calendar.... | |

| | | Too much Motley Crue, not enough Aerosmith | | Posted Monday, November 06, 2006 2:48:15 AM by Blog57 Team | | Part-time Danville resident Vince Neil isn't so different from his fans ? at least if we discount worldwide fame, untold riches and fawning supermodels. If he hadn't been up onstage fronting Motley Crue on Thursday night at the Shoreline Amphitheatre, he'd have wanted to be in the crowd watching Crue and co-headliner Aerosmith perform on the Route of All Evil tour. To prove that point, he made an offer to one fan sitting near the stage early in his band's set. "You want to trade seats with me?" he asked. That wouldn't have been such a bad idea. Although it was a monster double bill, one that rock fans had eagerly anticipated, only one of the two bands lived up to its legendary status. And it wasn't Motley Crue. While Aerosmith showed exactly why it's one of the most popular rock acts of all time, and delivered a tightly played set full of solid tunes, the Crue did nothing to illustrate how it has earned a similar ranking.... | |

| | | Claudia Schiffer says models are too thin | | Posted Tuesday, October 24, 2006 10:47:57 PM by Blog57 Team | | File photo of German model Claudia Schiffer walking the red carpet during arrivals for the awards ceremony at the 59th Cannes Film Festival May 28, 2006. Claudia Schiffer believes models are now too skinny to be attractive even though the German supermodel may herself be slightly underweight despite a voracious appetite and predilection for chocolate. "It doesn't really look good any more," the 36-year-old was quoted as saying in an interview with Germany's Bunte magazine. "Fashion looks good on thin models, but when you look at today's models you can not help but think there is something wrong. They are way too thin. It is only bones that stick out." Schiffer - who was part of a powerful band of 1990s jetsetting supermodels that included Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Christie Turlington and Linda Evangelista - was adding her voice to recent criticism of underweight models.... | |

| | | Courtney Jenkins '07: Fashion, reality and '90s supermodels | | Posted Saturday, October 21, 2006 12:47:03 PM by Blog57 Team | | Wednesday nights are still in the running for Brown's newest guilty pleasure, and it's not because of a certain bar by the river. Rather, what explains the appeal of my new favorite week day is a new addition to the ultimate boob tube trilogy. It may not be a Peter Jackson Middle Earth epic starring Elijah Wood, but who needs hobbits when you can have divas and deserted islands? Brunonians seem to be tuning in en masse for a television sandwich worthy of the Gate panini: a little of the not-so-deserted island drama of "Lost" squeezed in between the fashion combo of "Project Runway" and "America's Next Top Model." For the purposes of continuity, and because (spoiler alert) Sawyer's past life as a Calvin Klein underwear model hasn't emerged yet, let's talk fashion. First, there's Project Runway.... | |

| | | Schiffer Models Are Too Thin | | Posted Friday, October 20, 2006 6:48:05 PM by Blog57 Team | | CLAUDIA SCHIFFER has hit out at the current generation of supermodels, branding the beauties "bony". The German stunner acknowledges models need to be thin, but believes today's supermodels are unhealthy rather than beautiful. She says, "It doesn't really look good any more. Fashion looks good on thin models, but when you look at today's models you can not help but think there is something wrong. "They are way too thin. It is only bones that stick out." Last month (SEP06), Madrid Fashion Week officials sparked an international media frenzy when they announced that models participating in Fashion Week had to meet a certain weight standard to help prevent models from becoming dangerously thin. 20/10/2006 17:01 .... | |

| | | Weekend laws to live by | | Posted Monday, October 16, 2006 6:47:12 PM by Blog57 Team | | So it's Friday morning, or more likely, Friday afternoon. You're probably skipping classes right now because you're feeling less than spring-fresh after last night. Hey, I'm not judging - you're reading the words of a guy who never schedules Friday classes because he knows better. We're barely a month into the school year, but the uptown scene is definitely going strong. Wednesday is the new Thursday, and so on. People are up there every night looking for something special. They want liquor, loving, maybe a bit of both. Yet high hopes for a good time are often dashed by a blatant misunderstanding of what constitutes the right series of moves uptown. Uptown is a choose-your-adventure, and if you make the wrong choice, you'll probably be hung-over, lonely and broke.... | |
